Description

THE STORY

Fair Isle is located in the North Sea approximately 24 miles southwest of the Shetland Islands, and almost exactly between Shetland and Orkney. Despite being one of Britainís most remote islands, it is still inhabited by about 70 or so farmers that have created one of the UK’s most successful small communities.

Fair Isle is also famous for its birds, knitwear and historic shipwrecks, as well as pioneering projects in wildlife tourism, wind power and environmental sustainability. Furthermore, archeologists have studied Fair Isle more intensely than most of the Scottish islands, finding evidence of Neolithic settlements of up to 5,000 years ago!
